Goin’ To the Dog Park

Since I have never owned a dog in my entire life, it might seem strange that one of my favorite places in the world is the dog park at Point Isabel, but there you are.

It makes me smile every time.

I love to go there with my friends who have dogs. Todd and I often walk out there just for the chance to be around dogs. And lately I’ve had a weekly walking date with my friend Patty and her lovely Australian Shepherds Rosie and Gracie. You can’t beat the place for beauty, with the expansive views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline. Even on a breezy and overcast day, the place warms my heart because of the dogs. Young or old, whatever the breed, they all seem to experience the joy of being off-leash with every fiber of their furry beings.

I’ve rarely witnessed a scuffle among the animals, and the humans are remarkably friendly too. There is just something magical about the place that brings out the best in everyone. Having a bad day? Spend twenty minutes at Point Isabel. You’ll leave happy, guaranteed.

The genius of the place continues at the Sit and Stay Cafe. I mean, seriously, could there be a better name?

And right next store is Mud Puppies, where the dogs who couldn’t resist the lagoon at low tide can freshen up before they jump in the car for the ride home. A little spa treatment is always a good idea.

If you have a dog, maybe I’ll see you out there. And if you don’t, don’t let that keep you away.

Sit and stay. Or run and chase.

It’s all good.

Thanks, Don! I hope to continue this series because it is just that . . . so much fun. Dogs just seem to wear their hearts on their sleeves. No poker faces at the dog park. :)

That was Minnie with the towel wrapped around her. Mudpuppies is such a friendly place! Next time you’re home, Grace, we’ll go to Pt. Isabel for sure. You can play with all the dogs and not have to pick just one!

I don’t live in the bay area or have a dog, but this is one of my favorite places on the planet too! I love seeing cars heading in with happy dogs hanging out the windows. They know it’ll be a treat! Can’t wait for my next visit to San Fran, so I can spend another Sunday there!

We’ve been going to Point Isabel for over 10 years! Mudpuppies has evolved from a couple of tubs in a portable to a permanent building with the cafe and a nice little outdoor seating area. It’s a terrific place for dogs and the humans who love them.
