A Party With Heart

A Party With Heart

July 23, 2014  |  Cajun Zydeco, Events, Local Interest

I think one of the reasons that that my exploration of Zydeco music has captivated me so is that it is about much more than music. It springs from a rich Creole culture that values community. When I go to hear Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic play there is always a room full of joy, often delicious and comforting food, and — especially when the venue allows young ones– generations of folks having a wonderful time together.

Andre is all about sharing this culture. His passion project, the Creole United Festival, will be bigger and better this year and will benefit another project dear to his heart, the Zydeco for Kids program (through Performing Stars of Marin).

Andre is hosting a kick-off party on Sunday, July 27th at Sweetwater Music Hall. The party will feature all the elements that make Zydeco so much fun: great music, dancing, and the foods of Southwest Louisiana prepared specially by Sweetwater’s Executive Chef Gordon Drysdale. There are also rumors of specialty drinks with a hint of Sammy Hagar’s Beach Bar Rum. :-) Giveaways too.

There are still TICKETS available, but they are going fast. The party will be a blast. And the fact that it benefits such a good cause? Sweet.

Andre Thierry is doing important work with his Creole United Festival. I invite you to take a moment to learn more here. I hope I’ll see you at the party!
